CELEBRATE ALEXANDER SERGEYEVICH PUSHKIN'S BIRTHDAY
WITH THE WILL & ARIEL DURANT LIBRARY
LOS ANGELES, CA
Join the Will & Ariel Durant Library on June 8, 2013 to celebrate the birthday of Alexander Sergeyevich Pushkin, generally considered  to be the greatest Russian poet and father of modern Russian literature. Events include a puppet show, featuring one of Pushkin's greatest fairy tales, “The Tale of the Fisherman and the Fish.” Arts and crafts time is also planned for children following the show, reinforcing the lessons learned through Pushkin's legendary storytelling.
Alexander Pushkin produced his great works during the Romantic period, publishing his first poem at age fifteen, and being recognized by literary experts around the world by the time he graduated from Tsarkoye Selo Lyceum. Under strict censorship from the Tsar, Pushkin penned his greatest works, a play entitled “Boris Godunov” and a novel in verse, Eugene Onegin between 1825 and 1832. Pushkin's legacy is that of a writer who created works so deep and complex, many have not been translated to English. He used natural styles of speech combined with foreign influence to change the way Russian literature was written. Pushkin also became an influence on Russian Opera, with his works being added to pieces using his signature style of verse.
The puppet show is produced by Tree of Wonders, a Los Angeles based group which uses traditional Russian styles to create unique characters for their shows. Providing educational yet entertaining experiences, Tree of Wonders performs at events thru-out the Los Angeles area to children of all ages. Tree of Wonders provides timeless lessons via puppetry, teaching lessons in both life and creativity that children always carry with them.
The event is held at the Will & Ariel Durant Library, located at 7140 West Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90046.
